THE YMCA PHILOSOPHY OF YOUTH SUPER SPORTS

YMCA Youth Super Sports is not just another sport program. Our mission is stated in our Seven Pillars of YMCA Youth Super Sports.

  1. Pillar One – Everyone Plays
  2. Pillar Two – Safety First
  3. Pillar Three – Fair Play
  4. Pillar Four – Positive Competition
  5. Pillar Five – Family Involvement
  6. Pillar Six – Sport for All
  7. Pillar Seven – Sport for Fun

All three programs, Rookies, Winners and Champions, have been carefully crafted to maximize the potential for youngsters to have a positive and beneficial experience. We recognize that sport is not just a frivolous game in the life of young people, but instead has profound influences on them. Through YMCA Youth Super Sports we want to help young people develop character, not become “characters.” We want to help them learn to care about others, be honest, show respect, and be responsible.

Sport, of course, doesn’t teach these things automatically to young people. Sport provides a good opportunity to teach these values, but only through skillful leadership provided by volunteer adults.

All children are guaranteed to play at least half the game. Our Youth Super Sports program will not keep league standings, not recognize all –star teams, they are ALL all-stars. We will recognize all players with a medal and certificate at the conclusion of the season. We guarantee that all players will receive praise and positive reinforcement throughout the program.

Our coaches are perhaps the most important position in our program. The coach is the main contact for you and your child. The coach will be informed of all rosters, rules, practice times, game times and changes that might occur.

The success of our program is based on the involvement of the entire family. Parents are encouraged to get involved by assisting coaches, bringing a healthy snack and cheering kids on during games.

Please go to www.training.ymca.net to find these courses, YMCA Youth Sports Programs, The Parents Role in Y Sports, and Volunteers Make the Team, to learn the important role parents play in our program.

Do You Have a Question?

Our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
