strong kids, strong families,
strong communities

Volunteers are the foundation for our ability to serve the community. The YMCA is comprised of individuals who set policies, advise staff members, assist with recreational programs, and participate in childcare, community service and the many services we offer.

Through financial contributions to our Strong Communities campaign, capital campaigns, and the endowment fund, volunteers demonstrate their commitment to the community in which they live.

strong communities - The Strong Communities campaign makes Y programs affordable and accessible to all. The campaign allows us to open our doors and our hearts to those in need. Families who cannot afford the full price of programs and child care can receive financial assistance scholarships. Membership and program fees are not used for this purpose. Instead, we rely on charitable contributions from friends like you. More than $500,000 in scholarships are awarded annually.

Today’s YMCA is a force of hope. But, we always run out of money before we run out of kids. Can you help? Our future depends on the strength of our children. Your commitment to the Strong Communities campaign will keep peninsula kids growing stronger and stronger. We can create a more promising future for ourselves and for generations to come.

Together, we can give every child a place to go and a chance to grow.

volunteers - Volunteers are the secret to our remarkable past; they are the strength of our present; and they are the promise of our future. YMCA volunteers - who are usually members, too - share a strong sense of responsibility toward the community and the YMCA. Volunteer members assist with programs, formulate policy, develop new program initiatives, and evaluate existing services.

There always are new opportunities for volunteers to tackle. We value and appreciate the contributions of our volunteers. Here are some of the ways they help:
  • Call to welcome new members
  • Tutor a youth
  • Become a work-out buddy for a new member
  • Become a mentor for a teen
  • Read to a child in the after-school program
  • Coach or referee a youth sports team
  • Assist the administrative staff with office work
  • Coordinate special family events
  • Help with branch communications
  • Become a Strong Communities campaigner
  • Serve as a board member

If you are willing to share your time and talents with others, we'd like to hear from you! You'll receive the genuine satisfaction that comes from truly helping others.

giving - There are several ways in which you can make a financial contribution to the Peninsula YMCA.

  • Strong Communities Campaign

  • Provides support to programs and services for underserved youth and families.

  • Endowment

  • Our children are our future and what we give them is their heritage. That's why the Heritage Club was formed...to provide a permanent financial base to support the mission and services of the Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA. Heritage Club members show long-term interest, commitment and support through a direct contribution to the Endowment Fund or by including the YMCA in their estate planning.

Gifts to the Endowment Fund are enduring, far-reaching investments in the community. You provide essential support to fund such valuable programs as at-risk youth, youth services, community development, and camping.

There is a wide range of ways to give:
  • A donation of cash
  • Include the YMCA in a will
  • Contribute appreciated assets such as stock, real estate or personal property
  • Purchase a life insurance policy and name the YMCA as owner or beneficiary
  • Establish a trust or charitable gift annuity
  • Donate a home or real estate to the YMCA

If you have questions about the ways of giving available to you, we have professionals who can assist you. Please consult your tax advisors regarding specific tax benefits and questions.
