Dance for Youth

The YMCA offers dance because it offers so many health benefits. Moving your body to music makes you use your brain and body in creative, and probably new, ways than you have before.

Dance is not offered at all locations. Please ask about dance programs at your Y.

For kids, dance teaches rhythm, grace, flexibility, self-expression, raises self-confidence and esteem, and is a fun way to stay active.

Preschool Ballet – ages 3-5

Children experience the beauty of dance while developing musicality, rhythm, flexibility, balance and physical fitness. While traditional ballet classes concentrate primarily upon the dance technique, Preschool Ballet allows your child to learn a real foundation for classical ballet training.

Beginning Technique – ages 6-12

Children experience the beauty of dance while developing musicality, rhythm,flexibility, balance and physical fitness. While traditional ballet classes concentrate primarily upon the dance technique, Youth Ballet allows your child to learn a real foundation for classical ballet training.

Youth Ballet – ages 6-12

Everyone to the barre for center work, and plié. Students learn proper class etiquette while building self-confidence and technique. All students must wear leotard, tights, and pink ballet shoes.

Intermediate – ages 6-12

Children experience the beauty of dance while developing musicality, rhythm,flexibility, balance and physical fitness. Students must have at least 2 years of basic technique.

Advanced – ages 6-12

Children experience the beauty of dance while developing musicality, rhythm,flexibility, balance and physical fitness. While traditional ballet classes concentrate primarily upon the dance technique, Youth Ballet allows your child to learn a real foundation for classical ballet training.

Ballroom Dance I – ages 13+

Dance like the stars at the YMCA. Cha-Cha, Samba, Merengue, Tango! Traditional and Latin-style ballroom are taught by seasoned professionals.
