Child Development
At the YMCA, building strong kids is a top priority. We offer a number of high-quality programs to ensure that your child grows in spirit, mind and body. Know that when in the care of the YMCA, your child will learn, grow and have fun in a safe, supervised environment.
The Peninsula has two independent child development centers. The Child Development Center at Colonial Williamsburg is located adjacent to Colonial Williamsburg. We are proud for you to note that this is an NAEYC accredited center. The Wiley Child Development Center is located across the street from the Northern Neck Family YMCA in Kilmarnock. Please follow the links to learn more about our premier child development centers.
Our Newport News Family YMCA is the home of another full-time Child Development Center.
Preschool
YMCA Preschool fosters growth and development in young children, and provides a responsive environment where preschool age children learn through hands-on experiences. The Centers operate a full day, year round program for children ages 2 through 5 (children must be potty trained) and enroll children regardless of gender, creed, religion, race or national origin. A typical day offers playground fun, arts & crafts, classroom instruction, storytelling and naptime.
Available at Middlesex, Newport News, Northern Neck, Richmond County and R.F. Wilkinson (Williamsburg)

School-Age
YMCA School-Age (Before/After School Child Care) programs provide an environment in which children can make friends, be part of a group, meet physical challenges and know they are liked, respected and appreciated. For the times you can't be there yourself, the YMCA supports your efforts to nurture your school age child's healthy development. Well-trained staffs provide safe, affordable, high-quality care so you can have peace of mind while you work to help your family succeed. At the YMCA, good child care is good family care. Staff members are partners with parents and other caregivers, working together to help children grow healthy, happy and strong.
Available at Hampton, Luter (Smithfield), Middlesex, Newport News, Northern Neck, Northumberland, R.F. Wilkinson (Williamsburg), Richmond County, Victory (York County) and Westmoreland YMCA locations.
