Your New Mathews Family YMCA

In order to continue the vision of strengthening the foundations of our surrounding communities, the Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA is proud to announce the opening of the new Mathews Family YMCA! This new facility building will allow the YMCA to be further responsive to the community needs of Mathews County, and it will further continue our ability to offer programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. This facility would not be possible without the loyalty of our amazing volunteers, and the generosity of our community donors.

So what does our new facility offer?

A Larger Facility

The new YMCA building will offer a lot more room than our previous space. Affording us the opportunity to accommodate a larger amount of members from all different walks of life.

More Programs

The Mathews Family YMCA will also be able to offer group exercise on their site for the first time!

Fitnasium

The Fitnasium is a multi-purpose gym with a basketball hoop and is lined for pickleball. This area will also be utilized for a variety of different classes and activities.

Improved Child Watch

Child Watch will be offered at the Mathews Family YMCA. An enclosed play area will also be available so that children can play outside safely.

Established Wellness Center

The new Mathews Family YMCA will feature a designated Wellness Center that includes a larger variety of equipment, including wheelchair-accessible equipment, and free weights.

Emergency Relief Shelter

The YMCA building has been constructed to serve as a relief shelter for the county after a strong storm has passed through. It has a kitchen for food preparation, and it is outfitted with a permanent emergency generator with an automatic transfer switch. The building is also two feet higher than the surrounding terrain in case of storm surge.

And Much More

This facility is just the beginning of a new and improved Mathews Family YMCA. The Y is constantly striving to improve its facilities and meet the needs of the communities it serves. New classes and improvements are always being looked into for the future.
