Our Mission at Work in 2016

See how the YMCA’s mission, “To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all” is making a positive impact on the communities we serve.



3,094 volunteers served 54,029 hours. Volunteering is one of the
essential ways the Y engages people and helps them to be healthy,
confident, and connected to others. The role of volunteers distinguishes
the Y as a place where everyone can take an active role in bringing about meaningful,
enduring change in the community.



Bright Beginnings

797 students received new school clothes and supplies
to help them start the school year off with confidence
through Bright Beginnings.



Summer Camp

Hopping the summer learning loss gap:

3,771 campers participated in summer learning
loss prevention activities:

  • 3,484 different STEM projects were created.
  • Over 17,856 books were read.



Nutrition Education

Over 90,000 youth had the opportunity to learn how to fight childhood obesity
and live a healthier lifestyle through the 5210 program while participating in
programs such as Swim Lessons Youth Super Sports, Child Watch and
Summer Camp.



Learn To Swim

Safety Around Water

1,070 second graders in our service area received free swim lessons as part of our
Safety Around Water-2nd Grade Learn to Swim program enabling them to be safer
and more confident around water.




Healthy Kids Day

Youth, adults and volunteers celebrate Healthy Kids Day®, one of the nation’s largest
health days for children initiated to improve the health and well-being of kids.




LivestrongChronic Disease Prevention and Education Programs

157 cancer survivors have received individualized attention in an approach to recovery through the
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program since its beginning in 2014. In 2016, the Diabetes Prevention
Program kicked-off to assist with education and lifestyle changes for the 21 participants enrolled.
